Only dull people are brilliant at breakfast

samsung ace 560

You find the darndest things in your cereal sometimes but today my daughter found this ‘weird & wonderful’ facts card in her Chocolate Curls.

It features a ‘weird quiz’ on the back:

1) Which sea creature doesn’t have a brain?

a. Shark

b. Lobster

c. Starfish

2) How do butterflies taste things?

a. With their tongue

b. With their feet

c. With their wings

3) What was the first soup made from?

a. Hippopotamus

b. Potatoes

c. Chicken

The answers are fairly obvious (c,b,a) despite the fact that they seem so unlikely.

Do you know what I mean?

I know I’m no David Attenborough but are these facts true (including the one in the photo) or a stretch of the truth? Anyone?

Please feel free to leave any more unlikely facts here too.

Hi, I’m Jill, a writer and teacher living in the UK, usually behind a desk but sometimes on a sofa with a book or a film. I began writing at around age three, legibly by five, although I didn’t write any stories until I was older. Aged eleven, I began writing children’s fiction, mostly middle-grade fantasy and I’m still doing it to this day. I have had stories published online and in My Weekly magazine. The best bit about writing is when ideas pop into your head (from the writing fairy presumably?) and everything starts clipping together like a jigsaw puzzle. The worst bit? When you start to get the feeling there's a piece missing from the box...

  1. Here I am, the Queen of Useless Information but I promise, Ill only leave one weird factoid (today) : Hummingbirds require so much energy hour to hour that, in order to survive 8 hours of nighttime, they actually go into hibernation EVERY night. Nifty, uh? 🙂

  2. I cudnt guess any of thesse right…here are some facts that are weird for u to enjoy Jill:

A crocodile can’t stick its tongue out.
Cats sleep 70% of their life
Dolphins sleep with one eye open
It is physically impossible for pigs to look up into the sky.
Mosquito repellents don’t repel. They hide you. The spray blocks the mosquito’s sensors so they don’t know you’re there.
Most dust particles in your house are made from dead skin.
Elephants are the only animals that can’t jump.
No word in the English language rhymes with “MONTH.”

      2. I know, I love hearing about them. I’m continually surprised by how many wonderful creatures and plants there are out there that I’ve never heard of before.
